FAL & the Surgeon
FAL's First Assistants are competent to:
- Assist with positioning of patients
- Assist with preparation and draping of patients
- Assist with incision
- Correctly handle and utilise surgical instrumentation as appropriate for an operation
- Assist with minimal access surgery
- Assist with knot-tying and cutting
- Assist with surgical haemostasis
- Safely use and apply electrosurgery
- Handle specimens correctly and safely during and following surgery
- Assist with wound drainage and wound closure
- Assist with applying appropriate dressings and casts
