FAL's First Assistants have an understanding of and specialise in:
- Operating department skills and etiquette
- Principles of asepsis and the microbiological environment of the surgical patient
- Different retraction methods to provide optimal visualisation of the operative site
- Principles of safe tissue handling
- Physiology of Wound Healing
